FOLD X at Slowtraveler, or how we test our products

Anyone who follows our activities on the roof tent market in Poland has certainly noticed that we have recently undergone rebranding and from the dmtents brand we have become OFFLANDER. Our ambassador Maciek, who runs the  Slowtraveler channel ,  received a prototype FOLD X model from us and after 6 months of use he shared his feelings with us. As our tester, Maciek consulted with us on an ongoing basis his ideas regarding FOLD X so that its new version would meet even the most demanding expectations. FOLD X is a medium-sized tent from the FOLD series.

The FOLD 2 model can comfortably accommodate two adults, the FOLD 4 two adults and two children, and the FOLD X two adults and a child.

All of these models are based on the same opening technology, which Maciek called “sandwich”. This means that after opening the closure, the cover lifts with the help of actuators, and then the user opens the front part of the tent by sliding the ladder forward.

FOLD X is the only tent in the Fold family with an aluminum casing, so it will be perfect for more demanding terrain, which is covered by larger and heavier expedition vehicles. Maciek suggested that due to the weight of FOLDA X (equal to 88 kg), it will work better on a large car such as Nissan Patrol.

FOLD X looks massive and solid at first glance. The aluminum casing is 27 cm high, 180 cm long and 120 cm wide, and when unfolded, the tent measures 208 × 180 × 120 cm. This is a large area for comfortable sleep for up to 3 people, as confirmed by our Ambassador, traveling with his wife and daughter.

In the Slowtraveler film you can see the T-Slot technology used in the FOLD X. Special handles can be inserted into the grooves visible on the shell, with the help of which you can attach, for example, a shovel or other tool necessary during the expedition. This is extremely useful and Maciek has praised this solution more than once.

The assembly of the tent is extremely easy and quick. All you need is a car equipped with a roof rack or platform. The tent’s load-bearing beams have guides that allow you to adjust it to the cross beams. Then you tighten the buckles using the assembly kit and the tent is ready to travel.

The tent is also equipped with lockable locks. Opening the tent itself takes about 3 minutes, which is clearly visible in the Slowtraveler film. A skilled owner can easily set up the entire tent in about 2. The tent is equipped with a ladder, shoe bags, anti-condensation mat, cylinder locks and LED lighting.

In the rain, we recommend that you place a roof stabilizer, which prevents water from collecting on the top of the tent. In Maciek’s video you can see how to install it.

The FOLD X tent has 2 windows and an entrance opening. All of them can be secured with a mosquito net, a transparent foil attached with Velcro or completely closed. You can unfold and tighten the window canopies thanks to the aluminum rods. If you want more light to get into the tent, you can roll up the material and fasten it with special straps. There is also a window on the roof of the tent, thanks to which you can watch the starry sky before falling asleep.

Every OFFLANDER tent, including the new FOLD X, comes with an anti-condensation mat. In our experience, this is an essential element that helps minimize moisture build-up in the tent.

Thanks to the special construction of the mat, water vapor that condenses and flows down the walls of the tent has the opportunity to evaporate freely from the microfibers of the mat. Of course, this will not replace airing the tent and wiping their walls with a dry cloth, but it definitely increases the comfort of use, especially on colder nights.

In the film, Maciek shows how, after tightly closing the tent, it is completely dark. Thanks to this, you can sleep off your trip at any time of day or night. The tent is equipped with a 3-level LED strip, which you can turn on after connecting it to a power bank using a USB cable.

The durable fabric of the tent is waterproof and withstands adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rain, wind or scorching sun. Despite being protected from rain, the fabric breathes, so you don’t feel the heavy, „stuffy” air in the tent. The colors of the fabric have been selected so that the tent is still elegant, but at the same time it doesn’t heat up as much as the black model that Maciek tested for us. What both our Ambassador and customers appreciated was the graphic that was inside the FOLD X tent, showing a sketchy mountain landscape.

Thanks to the comments we receive from our ambassadors, we can make changes that affect your comfort and convenience, and make using the tent easier and more enjoyable. Each ambassador tests a different model, and since they travel not only around Poland, but also to more distant corners of the world, you can be sure that the tents have been tested even in the most demanding and unusual conditions.
